Head Skis 09/10
Head's ski range is quite refreshed with new recreational and all mountain series.

-.--.-New recreational range is introduced by Head for season 2009/10 – Icon. Four models, from Icon 20.0 to Icon 80.0 (top model, left), have a primary purpose to be reliable and fast "transport device" on the prepared slopes. Waist width of 66 to 68 mm enhances this purpose. The average radius is about 14 m in length of 170 cm. Icons should be suitable for a wide range of skiers - from beginners to advanced intermediates. All models come with Intelligence and Torque Turning technology and Railflex binding system. For more info about the technological features, read the Head Technology 09/10 article. Highly skilled skiers will benefit from Icon 80.0 and its Sandwich structure and race structured base.

Racing series remained unchanged. Worldcup iSpeed should be highlighted as a serious GS ski characterized by Sandwich structures plus Intelligence and Liquidmetal technology. All Racing range models have race structured base. Equally challenging is the Worldcup iSL, but for short turns. Very fast iSupershape Magnum ski has a 71 mm waist, somewhat wider then what we're used to in racing series. Supershape label stands for oversized sidecut. Two interesting models follow, iSupershape Speed as a compromise between short and long turns and iSupershape, a slalom model with accentuated sidecut shape. Supershape models are for experts, but those who prefer easier turn initiation and a bit relaxed ride.

-.--.-Chip series carries Intelligence technology with the addition of pre-programmed chip. Three models make the series: Chip 78, 71 and 66. Numbers in the name reveal the measure of waist in millimeters. Knowing this, one can easily specify their purpose - from freeride to all mountain and carving. Dark design reveals that these are serious tools for well-skilled skiers. After all, skills are necessary to conquer bunch of technology features, such as: Sandwich structure, Intelligence and Liquidmetal technology, race structured base, Railflex system...

Cross skis no longer exist. Hype is now on the all mountain models where Head is introducing Peak series (headline photo). Five models are presented: 88, 82, 78, 76 and 73. "Name = waist width" rule for easier orientation should be consulted again. So, three wider models are available also without Railflex system which reveals their freeride origins. Narrower models are somewhat easier to ski and are more suitable for skiers starting to explore deep snow. Associate member of this series is the Alpinist, a touring ski with reduced weight and a few extra features such as hydrophobic surface or skins.

Serious freeride can start when you buy one of the Big Mountain models: Jimi 110, Joe 105, 102 Richie and John 94. Again, from the name it is easy to read the waist width. Same principle worth for freestyle models in Park&Pipe series: Bullet 84 and Black Jack 80. This are the skis with reduced weight, reinforced walls and, if necessary, twintip construction. Flower-power and graffiti design can not be compared with the graphical solution of a special model of this series – J.O. Pro. Jon Olsson has decided to put a picture of his attractive girl on the skis (right).

Serious attention is devoted to the design of women's skis, but the true beauty lies beneath. The One series is ruled by the Power One model, racing model that lacks almost nothing of "regular" racing features. There are also three freeride and freestyle models. Women's offer is rounded up with four recreational models. These are the skis for prepared slopes that cover all skill levels – from beginners' Fine One to advanced Perfect One.

Junior range has ten models. Although the children will find some skis for junior races, most of them have identical, simple construction with only variable in exterior design.
