Val di Fiemme/Obereggen is a nice family ski resort situated in the Italian Dolomites, below impressive mountain peaks that are colored in red on the end of a sunny day. Its 151 km of slopes sound promising, but the number is divided onto 5 separated areas: Latemar/Obereggen, Cermis, Alpe Lusia/Bellamonte, Passo Rolle and Oclini/Jochgrimm.

The largest number of slopes (40 km) belong to most popular Latemar/Obereggen ski area that spreads above the villages of Predazzo, Pampeago and Obereggen. Slopes wind down from 2500 to 1550 m. They are mostly red and blue, not too demanding and provide an ideal opportunity for all beginners and intermediates to practice their technique. The experts will also be satisfied with a few steeper and nicely configured runs. Conditions on the course are even more favorable because of direct sunlight exposure - you will hardly resist pulling away and joining the tanning crowd on the terraces (of course, if you manage to grab a seat).

-.-Skijanje.hr-.-Speaking of the terraces, you will find typical alpine specialties at relatively affordable prices, just slightly more expensive than on the smaller ski resorts in the region. During the last few seasons some major investment in the ski lifts have been made so you will enjoy fast and comfortable 4- and 6-seater lifts, most of them hooded. On skis, you can go down to Obereggen and Pampeago; to Predazzo (and from it) a cabin lift operates and one can enjoy a great view of the ski jump hill nearby. In the morning, skiers are often queing at the entrance to the cabin lift. Slope preparation is excellent; a lot of effort is put every night in smoothing the runs. The only trouble spot, especially for beginners, can be the last red run toward Predazzo cabin lift - at the end of the day the trail can be rather destroyed. If you do not have the will to fight it on your skis, friendly staff will allow you to take the 4-seater to the bottom. Do not miss adrenalin ride on the Alpine rollercoaster, located near the top station of Predazzo cabin lift (EUR 4 for a ride).

-.-Skijanje.hr-.-Another major village in the valley, along with Predazzo, is te village of Cavalese, which is linked to the ski area Alpe Cermis. The Alpe Cermis remembers unpleasant accident from 1998 – the U.S. military plane severed a cable car that plunged to the ground taking a dozen of human victims. After this incident, a new cabin lift which leads to this friendly ski resort with beautiful trails set inside the thick evergreen forest was constructed. As the Latemar, the Alpe Cermis is also very suitable for beginners, but here the experts will find something for themselves, too. The 7.5 kilometers long black Olimpia run with altitude difference of 1370 m, which leads from the highest peak of Paion del Cermis to the valley, is a "gem of the valley".

Similar configuration of the slopes can be found on the Alpe Lusia/Bellamonte area (part of the Trevalli ski resort). Easier and sunnier slopes face Bellamonte, while more demanding runs can be found on the side towards Moena.

-.-Skijanje.hr-.-Ski lifts on the Passo Role area (a part of the San Martino di Castrozza ski resort) rise from 2000 m and are among the highest in Val di Fiemme. However, slight dislocation from the center of the valley makes them less visited.

The Oclini/Jochgrimm area is not worth spending the entire day at – ski this 3-4 blue and red runs only if you are a beginner or you don't have the time for a whole-day skiing.

Val di Fiemme has a long tradition in cross country skiing and together with the nearby Val di Fassa is a popular destination for fans of this type of snow fun. About 150 km of cross country trails attract great deal of tourists who can, on the last weekend of January, enjoy Marcialonga, a famous race in cross country skiing.

-.-Skijanje.hr-.-Six-day skipass in Val di Fiemme costs EUR 162 (EUR 184 in high season). A combined skipass can be bought offering skiing for a certain number of days at Val di Fiemme and a certain number of days in the whole Dolomiti Superski carousel. That way, you can try the nearby Val di Fassa/Carezza (linked to the Sella Ronda), San Martino di Castrozza or Trevalli.

As for accommodation, the valley has about 6500 beds. Prices are mostly reasonable; there is a possibility of accommodating directly on the slope, or a cheaper accommodation can be found at apartment complexes in small villages like Tesero, Ziano or Castella. Skibus runs through the valley, effectively connecting dislocated sites.

The valley is situated southeast of the Italian town Bolzano. The Verona-Innsbruck highway passes close by making Val di Fassa easily reachable by car. Nearest airports are in Bolzano, Verona, Venice and Innsbruck.

-.-Skijanje.hr-.-In villages like Cavalese you'll find quite a number of different gourmet restaurants, wine bars and pizzerias. Tourist board, in addition to the snow-offer, tries to attract guests by organizing various events - in addition to the above-mentioned Marcialonga, there is a ski jazz festival in March. In early January, do not miss the evening shows in which witches are prosecuted and burned – very impressive!

All in all, a very interesting destination, peaceful and dedicated to families. The only objection goes to the dislocation of five ski areas.
