Where to Ski in Spring?
Although most resorts have ended their ski and snowboarding season, there is a magic to spring skiing. Where can you have a go at spring skiing and enjoy descending the slopes in strong spring sun? Here are a few hints...

As for the Austrian ski resorts, Obertauern is still opened, and it will remain so until the beginning of May. The resort is still covered in some 200 cm of snow, with enough trails opened for getting the most of spring skiing. Turracher Höche ski resort, situated on the pass between Carinthia and Steiremark, is open for skiers until 1 May. It is currently covered in about 70 cm of snow, and its trails are groomed. The highest part of the Gastein region and a part of Amade ski complex, Sportgastein, is also still opened, with incredible 350 cm of snow guaranteeing excellent skiing on 4 opened ski trails. The resort closes on 4 May.

In Slovenia, some resorts are also defying warm weather. Kanin, with most of its trails opened, temperatures below zero, and 350 cm of snow, offers real glacier conditions. Although Krvavec closed officially, they will exceptionally open on 3 and 4 May, 2008, which will be the definite end of 07/08 at the Krvavec resort.

Hochgurgl closed its season yesterday, but trendy Ischgl is still opened, with excellent microclimate preserving considerable 170 cm of snow in the upper parts of the resort. Great number of trails are operating, and you can ski there until 4 May.

Glaciers are a different story. Mölltaler Gletscher traditionally closes its season on 12 May, with the start of yearly remount. Sölden, that is, Rattenbach and Tiefenbach Glaciers are opened until 5 May, when complete resort will close by 4 July. From 5 July to 10 October, spring/autumn skiing will be possible depending on the weather . The resort is covered in 340 cm of snow with 6 ski lifts operating. Hintertuxer Gletscher, opened throughout the year, is currently covered in 340 cm of snow, with 16 operating ski lifts and 80 km of opened ski trails.

Some of Italy's resorts are also opened. Marmolada  and the whole ski area around Sella massif is closed, but Presena glacier is still opened, with 250 cm of snow and all trails opened. Val Senales operates with 30 km of opened trails (13 trails), and 150 cm of snow.
